Thuraya and Simone Moro On The Peak Of Shisha Pangma 8027
Simone Moro is the first mountaineer to have climbed the Shisha Pangma, one of the 8,000 meters peaks of the Himalayas during wintertime.
Sponsored by Intermatica, Thuraya’s Italian service provider, Simone Moro kept in touch with the world even in the harshest of conditions throughout his climb with Thuraya. With temperatures falling below -40 degrees and at 8,027 meters, Thuraya’s satellite technology gave Simon the assurance of constantly keeping in contact with his base and family. Not only was Simon able to make voice calls but was also to send images and SMS via the Thuraya phone from the peak.
Highly elated after successfully climbing the peak, Simone sent Intermatica the following message from the summit via Thuraya satellite SMS:
"Peak, peak, peak!!! We are on the real top of the Shisha Pangma. Terrible winds and polar temperatures have truly tested our resistance. To be the first man in the world to tread on the peak during wintertime makes me tremendously happy and I am adding this notch to the history of mountaineering.”
