Thuraya Announces Expansion of its New Coverage Area Towards East and South East Asia
Note: Thuraya’s coverage will include the rest of Asia from the end of 2004.

Thuraya has announced that it will introduce its satellite telecommunications service to East and South East Asia, thereby expanding its service to nearly half of the globe.
Following the successful launch of its second satellite into orbit on June 10, 2003 and the smooth transfer of its traffic from the Thuraya 1 to Thuraya 2 satellite, Thuraya has decided to expand its growth opportunities into new market segments.
The newly added coverage will include China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan, Myanmar, Lao Democratic People’s Republic, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Brunei and parts of the Russian Federation that were previously not included in Thuraya’s initial coverage area.
Speaking on this occasion, Thuraya’s Chairman Mr. Mohammad Omran said: "We are pleased to add East and South East Asia to our existing footprint area. These geographically diverse regions are highly populated and can greatly benefit from Thuraya’s blanket coverage."

We have developed powerful applications that can meet the demand of a wide range of sectors, and can accommodate changing needs and requirements," Mr. Omran added.
On his part, Thuraya’s Chief Executive Mr. Yousuf Al Sayed said: "Thuraya has been highly successful in introducing services to more than 80 countries in the world. We are working in accordance with the requirements of national regulatory authorities and will be selecting experienced service providers to represent Thuraya in these countries.
