Thuraya Comes Second at the Ermenegildo Zegna Trophy 2004
Portofino, Italy: Thuraya Service Provider in Italy, Intermatica’s sponsored ‘Papastilla-Thuraya’ emerged victorious in the second place at the conclusive day of the Ermenegildo Zegna Trophy- Spring Regattas in Italy.
The day started out on a great, warm and sunny note but the wind over the race area never showed up. After delaying the race start until 2.00 PM, the Race Committee decided to abandon it for the day. However, the three Regattas that took place the previous days were sufficient to decide on the definitive results.
The disappointment for the lack of wind did not diminish the enthusiasm of the 42 yachts participating in the Regatta. The 23rd edition of the Ermenegildo Zegna Trophy - Spring Regattas, in Portofino maintains itself as an important event within the sailing calendar in the Mediterranean. The Prize Giving Ceremony was held at the Yacht Club Italiano.
While Fabio Montauti’s Papastilla - Thuraya received the second place and Vincenzo Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino walked away with the third prize, the results confirmed Raffaele Raiola’s Idea SAI as the winner in the IMS ORC Club Class.
The skipper Lorenzo Bressani was also presented with the prestigious Zegna Trophy. The Perpetual Challenge was awarded to the skipper of the yacht of the Classes IMS (ORC Club) and Wally, achieved the best scoring in the three days of race. Idea SAI had on board champions like Tommaso Chieffi and Cico Rapetti, winner of the 31st America’s Cup along with Alinghi. Also very happy was Vittorio Codecasa, owner of Jeroboam and winner in the Swan 45 Class.
In the IMS categories the second and third position went to respectively, to Pierluigi Loropian’s ‘My Song’ and ‘Black Dragon’.
Among the Wallys, the winners werer Peter Claus Offen, owner of Y3K, and still on top of the list, followed by Annica and Kauris III, belonging to Marco Tronchetti Provera. Joe Fly won the Farr 40 Class; Rrose belonging to Riccardo Bonadeo came second and the third position went to TWT, Marco Rodolfi’s boat.
