Thuraya launches free Missed Call Notification
ABU DHABI, Dec. 13, 2006 – As part of an ongoing innovation and service enhancement strategy, Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Co. has expanded its portfolio of value-added services by launching a free-of-charge Missed Call Notification service.
The new service, known as ThurayaMCN, allows subscribers keep in touch even when they are outside of the coverage area or their phones are switched off. When a call is missed, an alert is transmitted via SMS that displays the caller’s telephone number, time, date and frequency of the call.
MCN, which is mostly a paid-for service among GSM networks, is offered as a free added-value feature to all Thuraya subscribers.
It works in such cases as when the user’s phone is engaged, located outside of the coverage area, or the terminal is switched off.
ThurayaMCN is a pre-activated service and existing customers who still prefer to use Thuraya’s free voice mail service can continue to do so without having to do anything.
Those having an active voice mail box and wishing to use MCN will need to divert their calls to MCN short code 1444 using their handset menu.
“With the introduction of this service, Thuraya is differentiating itself as the most innovative and customer-focused Mobile Satellite Services operator in terms of adding services that enhance customers’ experience,” said Chief Commercial Officer Sultan Al Ghafli.
“ThurayaMCN will significantly reduce the chances of missing calls for the satellite user,” he added.
Thuraya has the largest subscriber base for mobile handheld terminals with some 250,000 users. The latest service makes its already GSM-like terminals even more user friendly.
Thuraya’s value-added services include SMS, SMS Premium with Al Jazeera Mobile, CallMeBack, Thuraya Recharge, Fleet Management Service and many others.
