Thuraya Launches Service in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Thuraya offers 100% telecom coverage in Democratic Republic of Congo
Abu Dhabi, 7th November, 2007:  As part of its continued focus on core African markets, Thuraya is launching commercial service in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  The service will be providing one hundred percent telecom coverage in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including remote and rural areas. 

Partnering with Fort Info Technology, its Service provider in DRC, Thuraya has successfully launched commercial today Wednesday 7th November 2007.

A major event was held at Memling Hotel in Kinshasa to mark the occasion, which was attended by senior officials Thuraya, Fort Info Technology and local government entities. Several potential customers such as UN institutions, NGOs, corporate companies and the media were also invited.

Representing Thuraya is Mr. Abdallah Touhami, Executive Manager Business Development, whilst Fort Info Technology was represented by its Managing Director, Mr.  Hossain Ahmadian. The event was also attended by Mr. David Bland, Chief Executive of UK based Geonix Tracking, who demonstrated the benefits of Thuraya tracking solutions especially to the security and logistics management for the DRC customers.

As Thuraya’s SP, Fort Info Technology will be marketing and selling the whole range of Thuraya’s products and services in the African country.  These include Thuraya’s second-generation handsets and Payphone and Rural Telephony solutions as well as ThurayaDSL broadband data service.

 “From initial market response, Thuraya services are expected to be of great demand by several industrial sectors as well as by the corporate and mass market throughout Congo,” says CEO of Thuraya Mr.  Yousuf Al Sayed.

He also added that Thuraya’s value proposition for Congolese customers is based on providing blanket satellite coverage of the country, uninterrupted services and at the best rates, enabling even low-income groups in villages and remote areas to benefit from these advanced services.         

Thuraya’s commercial launch in the Democratic Republic of Congo is another step that reinforces Thuraya’s strong presence and partnership with the telecom sector and telecom providers in the African continent.
