Thuraya Maximus at the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2006

Thuraya Maximus, the New Zealand maxi yacht  has a new a Skipper Paul Cayard for the Rolex Middle Sea Race in October.

The 26th Rolex Middle Sea Race will start on 21st of October 2006 from Valetta Harbour in  Malta. The Maximus is sponsored by Thuraya-Gruppo Intermatica, the leading Italian satellite technology company. Thuraya-Gruppo Intermatica will ensure that the 30m Super Maxi has wide band voice and data communications on board to enable them to consult weather forecasts in real time, allowing for safe, informed sailing.

Cayard comes fresh from the Swan Worlds in Porto Cervo Sardinia and will be joining joint owners Charles St Clare Brown and Bill Buckley and a Maximus crew line up including former Volvo Ocean Race skipper Matt Humphries and an impressive list of Italian sailors. The President of Intermatica, Claudio Castellani, will also be on board as they battle it out against old maxi rivals Alfa Romeo and Morning Glory on the challenging 608nm long course around Sicily.

With a fantastic crew, Thuraya Maximus just needs the winds on its side to win the race!
