Thuraya Signs Service Provider Agreement with Bhutan

Moving ahead with its goal to provide Satellite Telecommunications Services to its target countries, Thuraya Satellite Telecommunication Company has signed yet another service provider agreement with Bhutan. This mutual beneficiary agreement comes as a boost to the Department of Telecommunications of Bhutan, in its attempt to update its telecom services in Bhutan.
The signing agreement between Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications and The Department of Telecommunications of Bhutan took place on 9th April 2000. The agreement was signed by Thuraya’s Chief Executive, Mr Yousuf Al Sayed and Mr Sangey Tenzing, Director of The Telecommunications Department of Bhutan.
Under this service provider agreement, The Dept of telecommunications of Bhutan will have all rights to distribute and market Thuraya’s products in the Kingdom of Bhutan including user terminals and SIM cards, as well as oversee aspects such as billing and customer care services.
Speaking on the occasion, Thuraya’s Chief Executive, Mr Yousuf Al Sayed said: “We are very pleased to make this alliance with “The Telecommunications Department of Bhutan”. The Royal Kingdom of Bhutan constitutes an important market for Thuraya services. We hope to work closely with “The Telecommunications Department of Bhutan” towards providing our services, and expanding the reach of telecommunications throughout the Kingdom and complement the existing services”.
“Thuraya’s satellite services would greatly help the remote and widely spread out villages to have an effective telecommunications system. Thuraya’s satellite mobile system will come as a boon to interconnect all habitations and dwellings spread in the mountains” he added.
Bhutan is a strategic Kingdom located to the north-east of India and south of China. A mountainous country in the Himalayas well known for its scenic beauty, Bhutan’s major source of income besides tourism is the export of hydroelectricity to neighboring countries.
