Thuraya Signs Service Provider Agreement with Cameroon
Abu Dhabi , Nov 1st 2000: Thuraya’s growing network of Service Providers Partners in Africa was reinforced with the addition of Telecom Industry Corporation (TIC) of Cameroon.
The Service Provider agreement was signed between Thuraya and Telecom Industry Corporation (TIC) by Thuraya’s Chairman Mr Mohammad Omran and Mr Mohamadou Dabo, Chairman of TIC. Present at the signing ceremony were Thuraya’s Chief Executive Mr Yousuf Al Sayed, Mr Jamal Al Jarwan Executive Manager Business Development, and other senior officials.
The service provider agreement provides TIC with the rights to distribute and market Thuraya’s mobile satellite services in Cameroon. It includes distribution of user terminals and SIM cards, as well as provisions to oversee billing and customer care management.
Telecom Industry Corporation (TIC) is part of Moda Corporation, a diversified group of companies. TCI is a network Telephone distributor, providing telecommunications equipments and installation of PABXs.
Commenting on this partnership Thuraya’s Chairman Mr Omran said, “We are pleased to enter into this partnership with TIC, which plays a key role in the Cameroonian Telecommunications market.”
“We have successfully launched our satellite Thuraya –1 on 21 st October 2000 and we look forward to commence our commercial services in March 2001. We are proud for all commercial success achieved in the coverage area so far. We will enhance our presence in the local market through TIC’s expertise and complement the existing telecommunications services in the country.
On his part, TIC’s Chairman Mr Dabo said, “We are proud to have partnered with this important telecommunications initiative. Thuraya’s satellite services will fulfill the needs for telecommunications services in the remote, urban and rural areas in Cameroon.”
