Thuraya to Launch Satellite Services in Algeria

Algiers , ALGERIA–Thuraya’s network of alliances in North Africa has grown with the addition of The Ministry of Post and Transportation (MPT), Algeria’s national telecom operator.
The service provider agreement was signed on 6 May 2000, by Thuraya Chairman Mr Mohammad Omran and his Excellency Mr Mohammad Meglawi Minister of Post and Transportation, Algeria. Also present were Thuraya’s Chief Executive Mr Yousuf Al Sayed, Director Commercial Services Mr Maoloud Irzoni, and other officials from the Ministry and Thuraya.
The service provider agreement provides MPT with the rights to distribute and market Thuraya’s mobile satellite services in Algeria. It includes distribution of user terminals and SIM cards, as well as provisions to oversee billing and customer care management
Commenting on this partnership, Mr Omran said: “ Algeria is an important market for Thuraya in North Africa. We look forward to work closely with MPT to enhance existing telecommunication services in Algeria with the introduction of advanced satellite technology.”
