ThurayaDSL-an advanced product

Thuraya affirms satellite broadband leadership with advanced product

Abu Dhabi, September 19, 2006 : Thuraya is positioning itself as a key player in the satellite broadband market by further enhancing its high-speed data product ThurayaDSL through higher speed, compact design and greater functionality.

The leading regional mobile satellite operator plans to unveil the new-generation product in the first quarter of 2008.

Preliminary design of the terminal was approved in May and more consultations are planned with manufacturer Hughes Network Systems.

The project follows the highly successful launch of ThurayaDSL in 2005, already the most competitive and viable broadband solution available in the market.

The plug-and-play terminal is widely used in the oil and gas, media and NGO sectors, where customers value ThuaryaDSL’s “anytime, anywhere” Internet access. For news agencies, ThurayaDSL’s near real-time video streaming capability to send video clips from remote areas to the rest of the world would be instrumental.

Its reliable connectivity at speeds of up to 144Kbps allows access to several key Internet services and applications including e-mail, e-commerce, intranet, file transfer protocol (FTP) and virtual private network (VPN). The terminal serves as a virtual office, providing efficiency and great value for money to subscribers.

Many customers say ThurayaDSL is their first choice because of its easy-to-use features and affordability.

Now Thuraya is making it even more affordable — service providers who buy certain numbers of refill cards will receive a bundle that includes free terminals under the ThurayaDSL Unlimited Package campaign. This will help service providers design and customise their own promotions according to their market needs, said Abdel Rahman Al Aqqad, Senior Manager for Product Management.

With the Unlimited Package, customers get unlimited data access at a very competitive flat rate.

The campaign is aimed at enhancing Thuraya’s growth in the broadband satellite market by expanding its customer base in the corporate sector, Al Aqqad said.
