  • 1. On which networks does the Thuraya XT work?

    The Thuraya XT is a satellite phone which works in SAT-mode throughout the whole coverage area of the Thuraya satellites’s entire coverage area.

  • 2. What differentiates the Thuraya XT from other satellite phones?

    The key differentiators are reliability and usability.

    Reliability:


    The Thuraya XT is the only satellite phone in the market complying with IP54/IK03 standards, which makes it the toughest and most reliable satellite SAT-phone. Thuraya XT’s durable battery provides up to 6 hours talk-time and up to 80 hours standby-time.


    Usability:


    The Thuraya XT has an advanced menu with many features, such as an organizer or GPS-waypoint-navigation. It features a large 2-inch/5cm advanced glare-resistant display (with brightness sensor) which improves outdoor visibility in direct sunlight. Perfectly balanced weight-to-size ratio allows comfortable handling in all situations.

  • 3. What is the IP54/IK03 standard?

    IP and IK are international industrial standards referring to degrees of ‘ingress protection’ for electrical devices. The IP standard is defined in the international standard IEC 60529 (equivalent of the European standard EN 60529). The IK standard is defined in the international standard IEC 62262:2002 (equivalent of the European standard EN 62262).

    IP54 standard: First digit 54. Dust-protected. Full protection against interior injurious dust. That means dust cannot harm the operation of the phone. Second digit 54. Splash resistant. Protected against splashed water from all directions. That means splashed water cannot harm the operation of the phone.

    IK03 standard: Shock proof. Phone can withstand impacts of up to 0.35 joule. That means impacts of up to 0.35 joule cannot harm the phone.

  • 4. Which production materials are used to ensure the Thuraya XT’s durability?

    The external casing of the Thuraya XT is crafted from the latest polycarbonates in the industry, which are extremely robust. Internal components are shielded with aluminum and the connectors are protected with rubber seals to prevent damage from water splash or dust.

  • 5. What are the dimensions and weight of the Thuraya XT?

    The Thuraya XT weighs 193 grams and measures 128 x 53 x 26.5mm (l x w x d).

  • 6. Does the Thuraya XT support multiple languages?

    The menu of the Thuraya XT supports 12 standard languages, including English; Arabic; French; German; Italian; Spanish; Portuguese; Turkish; Russian; Farsi; Hindi; and Urdu. Additionally, there is a separate firmware version available which supports English-Chinese.

    The support-CD which comes with every new handset contains:

  • 9. Which connectors does the Thuraya XT have?

    The Thuraya XT has the following connectors: UDC (USB), ear jack, DC power, external antenna and the connector for the battery.

  • 10. Can I use my current Thuraya SIM Card with the Thuraya XT?

    Thuraya SIM cards working on other Thuraya handsets will also work with the Thuraya XT.

  • 11. Can the Thuraya XT be used with the current scratch cards?

    All available Thuraya scratch-cards can be used to recharge the Thuraya XT.

  • 12. Can I use my GSM SIM-Card in the Thuraya XT?

    The Thuraya XT can also be operated with a GSM SIM-card in satellite roaming mode. Please check with your GSM SIM-card provider for the latest roaming charges.

  • 13. What is the talk-time and standby-time of the Thuraya XT?

    The Thuraya XT uses an advanced heavy-duty-battery which allows talk-time of up to 6 hours and standby-time of up to 80 hours.

  • 14. What is the charging time of my Thuraya XT?

    The average charging time of an empty Thuraya XT battery is approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes.

  • 15. What are the specifications of the display?

    The display of the Thuraya XT is a 2 inch (5 cm) TFT-display with 262,000 colors and 176 x 220 pixels.

  • 16. What is the brightness sensor?

    The brightness-sensor on top of the display regulates the brightness of the display according to ambient lighting conditions. In dark environments the backlight of the display will be reduced, while backlighting will be increased in bright sunlight to provide optimal visibility. This also contributes to reduced battery consumption and thereby increases talk-time and standby-time.

  • 17. Can the display be read in direct sunlight?

    The Thuraya XT’s combination of a glare resistant display with the high-contrast font and background of the graphic user interface greatly enhances visibility in direct sunlight.

  • 18. Does my Thuraya XT have a GPS-navigation function?

    The Thuraya XT features GPS navigation, which allows you to create and manage waypoints. These can be used to navigate from a fixed location to various waypoints, showing the distance and direction to each. Additionally, you can use location tracking by automatically saving your GPS coordinates in fixed intervals which will allow you to create a track of your route.

  • 19. Can the location of my Thuraya XT be determined by others?

    The GPS navigation can only be initiated by the handset user – unwanted tracking cannot be remotely executed by third parties.You can, however, trigger the Location Based Service by transmitting your own coordinates to other telephones or computers. This functionality can be used in case of emergency or if you want to be monitored by your organization or by other individuals.

  • 20. Which PC Operating Systems are compatible with the Thuraya XT?

    The required operating system of connected PCs or laptops is Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 7 (in Vista compatibility mode).

  • 21. The Thuraya XT does not have a web browser. How can I use GmPRS?

    You can connect your Thuraya XT to a laptop or PC and establish a data connection via the included USB data cable. This will allow you to use the browser of your laptop or PC.

  • 22. How do I establish a GmPRS connection with my computer?

    In order to use a GmPRS connection via your Thuraya XT, you need to connect your Thuraya XT to a PC via USB data cable. You then need to establish a dial-up connection in your computer, just as you would connect to the Internet via a modem. (the standard dial-up code is *99#, please refer to the manual of your computer or modem for further details).

  • 23. What is the GmPRS speed of my Thuraya XT?

    The maximum GmPRS speed (Packet Data) of your Thuraya XT is as follows: Download: 60 kbit/s. Upload: 15 kbit/s.

  • 24. What is the Data and Fax speed of my Thuraya XT?

    The maximum Data/Fax speed (Circuit Switched Data) of your Thuraya XT is as follows: Download: 9.6 kbit/s. Upload: 9.6 kbit/s).

  • 25. Can I send e-mails using my handset?

    Yes, Thuraya XT has an advanced messaging service which also allows sending and receiving of e-mails. For details about how to set up the e-mail client please refer to the user manual.

  • 26. Are there accessories available for the Thuraya XT?

    There are a number of accessories which add even more functionality to your Thuraya satellite phone. These include: Car chargers, Travel chargers, USB Data Cables, Spare Batteries, Fixed Docking Units (FDU-XT) and Vehicle Docking Units (SAT-VDA and SAT-DOCKER).

  • 27. In which countries can I use the Thuraya XT?

    Thuraya provides satellite phone coverage in more than 159 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. The full list of countries can be found at www.thuraya.com.

  • 28. What is the warranty period for the Thuraya XT?

    The end-customer warranty is 12 months from date of purchase and requires a fully filled warranty card.

  • 29. In case of a problem with the handset how does the repair process work?

    Please contact the Service Provider you purchased your Thuraya XT from. The Service Provider will assist you with any problem related to the handset.

  • 30. Can I use any power adapter with the phone?

    No, due to the electrical specifications only correct Thuraya Power Adapters shall be used to avoid damages of the phone and void warranty. Spare Power Adapters can be purchased in case the original Thuraya Power Adapter is lost or damaged.

  • 31. On which networks do the Thuraya SO-2510 and SG-2520 work?

    The Thuraya SO-2510 and SG-2520 are satellite phones which work in SAT-mode throughout the entire coverage area of the Thuraya satellites.

  • 32. What are the dimensions and weights of the SO-2510 and SG-2520?

    The Thuraya SO-2510 weighs 130 grams and measures 118 x 53 x 18.8mm (l x w x d). The Thuraya SG-2520 weighs 170 grams and measures 138.5 x 53 x 18.8mm (l x w x d).

  • 33. What is the operating system used in the handsets?

    The Thuraya SG-2520 operating system is Win CE 4.2, and the Thuraya SO-2510 operating system is VX WORKS.

  • 34. Do the Thuraya SO-2510 and SG-2520 support multiple languages?

    The Thuraya SO-2510 and SG-2520 support 12 standard languages, including: English; Arabic; French; German; Italian; Spanish; Portuguese; Turkish; Russian; Farsi; Hindi; and Urdu. Additionally there is a separate firmware version available which supports English-Chinese.

  • 35. Can I use my current Thuraya SIM card with the Thuraya SO-2510 or SG-2520?

    Thuraya SIM cards for other Thuraya handsets also work with the Thuraya SO-2510 and SG-2520.

  • 36. Can the Thuraya SO-2510 or SG-2520 be used with the current scratch cards?

    All available Thuraya scratch cards can be used to add credit to your airtime account for the Thuraya SO-2510 and SG-2520.

  • 37. Can I use my GSM SIM card in the Thuraya SO-2510 or SG-2520?

    The Thuraya SG-2520 works either in GSM or Satellite mode.


    The Thuraya SO-2510 can also be operated with a GSM SIM card in satellite roaming mode if there is a roaming agreement. Please check with your GSM SIM card provider for the latest roaming charges.

  • 38. Does the Thuraya SO-2510 or SG-2520 have a GPS navigation function?

  • 42. What is the data and fax speed of my Thuraya SO-2510 or SG-2520?

    The maximum data/fax speed of the Thuraya SO-2510 or SG-2520 is 9.6 kbps for both upload and download.

  • 43. What are the main functions that the PCO supports?

    Voice, Data (GmPRS), SMS and FAX.

  • 44. What languages does the PCO support?

    English, French, Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Russian.

  • 45. How can SMS be sent and received?

    The PCO-2110 keypad can be used to write SMS for sending, and any SMS that is received on this PCO can be printed using the PCO’s printer. The PCO will display an icon when unread messages are available.

  • 46. How can fax be sent and received?

    The PCO-2110 has a FAX port (RJ 11) and any standard analog fax can be connected to it. The fax port will only receive the incoming fax. Depending on the type of the fax machine, the PCO will remember the settings of this particular fax model. If you connect a different fax model, then you will need to turn the PCO off and on again to reset.

  • 47. What benefits can we get with the GmPRS Data Service on the PCO?

    Data service is broadly categorized into four types:

    Data call to the OTA (Over The Air) server for remote data base downloads and system health status information. Incoming data call from the OTA server is automatically answered, and the system is held in OTA mode for system reports, updating to the server and database download from the server.

    Point-to-Point data calls can be established using the system USB port. During the call connection, data throughput is calculated and billed, based on the data exchanged.

    GmPRS Data Call: For internet browsing, GmPRS commands can be issued from the system’s USB port and also the dial up connection can be established. Data throughput calculation facility is also provided for the GmPRS connection.

    Data billing is programmable. The tariff rate can be programmed in the program modes included in the system.

  • 48. Can I use all the services together (Voice, SMS, FAX and GmPRS) on the PCO?

    No, parallel usage is not possible.

  • 49. How can I browse the internet by using my PCO?

    •  Connect your computer (PC/laptop) to the USB of the PCO
    •  Assign the standard modem settings on your PC @ 19200
    •  Select the ‘Data’ mode on the PCO
    •  Get Connection
    •  Start Browsing
    •  When done, the PCO will automatically print the receipt with the amount, duration, and data use for billing purposes

  • 53. What are the basic steps to start using Thuraya PCO?

    Insert SIM and Paper roll, Connect using SAT and GPS antennas, Connect telephone extension and booth display, Power on, obtain network and GPS fix, Your Thuraya PCO is ready to make the first call.

  • 54. What should I do to obtain Network and GPS fix?

    Place the GPS antenna outside on a flat surface with a clear view of the sky. 

    Power up Thuraya PCO by pressing the power button.

    Thuraya PCO is now attempting to locate itself using GPS. This may take up to five minutes.

  • 55. Where is the SIM card placed?

    The SIM card is placed in the rear side of the unit.

  • 56. Is the Thuraya PCO designed for indoor or outdoor usage?

    The Thuraya PCO is designed only for indoor use and not recommended to be used outdoors.

  • 57. Can Thuraya PCO SIM be used in other Thuraya terminals/ products?

    No

  • 58. Can any other SIM card be used in Thuraya PCO?

    No.

  • 59. Where can I buy the Paper Roll that is installed in the PCO?

    The Paper Roll used for the PCO is the standard roll used for credit card machines and other similar devices.

  • 60. What is the Thuraya Payphone?

    Thuraya Payphone is a solution for rural areas where customers have difficulties to afford mobile satellite phones. It is a debit card payphone whereby customers can purchase chip cards of certain value in advance and use the chip card to make calls afterwards.

  • 61. How to make a call via Call-for-All cards?

    Calls with Call-for-All cards can be made by dialing 155, 156 or 157. The system will ask afterwards to enter the Call-for-All PIN.

  • 62. Can the chip cards be programmed? Are they re-usable?

    No, the chip cards have predefined face values and can only be used one time.

  • 63. Will CDR logs be available to Service Providers?

    All traffic details can be seen on the PCAS (Prepaid Customer Administration System) that is provided to all Service Providers.

  • 64. Does the caller have to use the international destination code inside the same country?

    Yes, the user has to dial 00 even for local calls.

  • 65. What kind of hardware do I need to set up the Thuraya Payphone?

    The following components are required to set up the Thuraya Payphone service:

    • Thuraya Payphone
    • Thuraya Payphone SIM Card
    • SAT and GPS Antennas that come with the Payphone package
  • 66. How is the Payphone service available to customers?

    The Thuraya Payphone service is available to customers through Service Providers and distributors assigned by Thuraya.

  • 67. Who are the target customers?

    Thuraya Payphones offer telecommunication access to remote and rural areas, including towns, villages or hamlets. Some fields of operation are:

    • Government and military compounds/offices in rural/remote areas

  • 68. Can additional service charges be added by the Service Provider?

    National Service Provider can add additional service/tax charges in the tariff table.

  • 69. Can the currency format be changed?

    No, because chip cards or Call-for-All cards are used that have predefined face values in USD only.

    Using the Thuraya Payphone is a quick and easy task:

    • Insert the SIM card
    • Connect the SAT and GPS antennas
    • Switch on and obtain Network and GPS fix
    • Now your Thuraya Payphone is ready to make the first call
  • 72. What should I do to obtain Network and GPS fix?

    Place the GPS antenna outside on a flat surface with a clear view to the sky. Afterwards disconnect the power and restart the Thuraya Payphone. The unit will now attempt to locate itself using GPS location data (this may take up to five minutes).

  • 73. Can I change the SIM card while Thuraya Payphone is powered on?

    No, the terminal must be switched off before replacing the SIM card.

  • 74. Where is the SIM card placed?

    The SIM card is placed in the fixed TU that is placed inside the Thuraya Payphone unit.

  • 75. Is Thuraya Payphone designed for indoor or outdoor use?

    The Thuraya Payphone can be used indoors as well as outdoors.

  • 76. Can a Thuraya Payphone SIM card be used in other Thuraya terminals/products?

    No, the Thuraya Payphone SIM card can only be used in the Payphone.

    Thuraya XT-DUAL is a dual-mode phone which works either in GSM-mode (900/1800/1900 MHz) or in SAT-mode throughout the whole coverage area of the Thuraya satellites. This duality of GSM and SAT-mode provides highest flexibility to find available networks wherever you are.

    The Thuraya XT-DUAL uses an advanced technology to combine the strength of the Thuraya satellites with the purpose designed handset antenna in order to provide full walk-and-talk capability.

  • 80.What if I have the XT-DUAL in my pocket and the antenna is retracted; can I still receive incoming calls in SAT-mode?

    XT-DUAL uses the High-Penetration-Alerting (HPA) technology to provide call notifications even with weak satellite signal (e.g. phone in the pocket). After the HPA-notification, you can extend the antenna in order to accept the call.

  • 88.Which SIM-Cards can I use in the Thuraya XT-DUAL?

    All Thuraya postpaid or prepaid handset SIM-cards will work in your XT-DUAL. In addition Thuraya has roaming agreements with more than 350 roaming partners around the globe and therefore most GSM SIM-Cards will also work in the XT-DUAL (you will then use Thuraya services in roaming mode). 

  • 89.Which phone applications does the XT-DUAL have?

    The Thuraya XT-DUAL features many smartphone-like capabilities like an Organizer (with calendar, alarm, tasks and notes functions), an MP3 audio player, a Media Center (for images, audio files, video clips) and many other extras like Calculator, Converter, Audio Recorder, Stopwatch, Countdown timer, World time etc. In addition the XT-DUAL has a synchronization manager included which allows you to synchronize for example your MS Outlook Contacts or Meetings.

    The Thuraya XT-DUAL supports most of the common call  functions like Call diverting, Call barring, CUG (Closed User Group), FDN (Fixed Dialing Number) and many others.

  • 91.Can I load external applications or programs on the phone?

    Thuraya XT-DUAL supports Java and therefore Java applications or programs can be installed on the phone. However, please check with the developer of the Java application before installing on the Thuraya XT-DUAL.

  • 92.How can I use the Internet with XT-DUAL?

    Thuraya XT-DUAL has a built-in web browser for accessing the Internet. For a more convenient Internet access you can also connect your PC or laptop with the XT-DUAL and use the Internet from there in order to browse the web or check your mails. 

  • 93.What is the memory capacity of the XT-DUAL?

    The internal memory available for the user is approx. 352 MB. However, the XT-DUAL has also an external Micro-SD slot and comes with a 2GB Micro SD.

  • 175.How can I receive calls when the smartphone is not docked and paired?

    The main unit of the Thuraya SatSleeve has a vibration alert to indicate incoming calls. You can accept incoming calls using the SOS button and you can even make a call without your smartphone docked in the Thuraya SatSleeve because the main unit has a microphone and speaker. To end any calls, press the SOS button again.

    For incoming calls: the SatSleeve unit will give you a vibration alert when an incoming call is coming through and you can pick it up by pressing the SOS button. To disconnect the call, press the SOS button again.

    For outgoing calls: the SOS button can be used to call one pre-programmed number of your choice.

    If the satellite signal icon flashes, it indicates that the device has not yet received the required location information from the satellites.
