At the Forefront of Mobile Satellite Innovation

In the third issue of Thuraya Link, we provide new insights into Thuraya’s pursuit of innovation excellence, as well as showcase why cutting-edge mobile satellite services (MSS) will see increased adoption by oil and gas companies.

Major energy companies around the world increasingly depend on satellite technology to establish vital communication links at offshore platforms, which are often sited in remote regions. Oil and gas operators require reliable satellite broadband solutions to accommodate bandwidth intensive business applications, as well as robust satellite handsets to keep employees connected while their offshore operations take them further afield.

At Thuraya, we recognize the increased pressure that is being placed on energy companies to cope with growing bandwidth demands. To ensure that our customers get the most out of their investments, our Thuraya EnergyComms solutions are designed to meet the demands of today's digital oilfields — with flexible pricing packages that can be tailored to help operators better manage their communications expenditure.

In this issue, we highlight how Malaysia-based Shapadu Energy and Engineering made use of our MSS solutions to maintain regular communications between its offshore engineering crews and headquarter office. During the recently concluded ADIPEC 2013 exhibition, senior executives from Thuraya were on hand to showcase how the innovative technologies developed by Thuraya can help drive operational excellence in the energy sector.

On a personal note, I am greatly honored to head up Thuraya’s Innovation division, and I look forward to working closely with my colleagues, as well as our network of Service Partners, to expand the scope of our mobile satellite product portfolio. I intend to bring my past experience in the terrestrial mobile sector to Thuraya, and offer fresh perspectives on how we can accelerate product innovation.

Thuraya has always been seen as an innovator in the MSS industry. Our vision is to build on this strong foundation in a number of ways. We aim to deepen our understanding of the business challenges our customers face, and deliver a comprehensive range of solutions that help customers address these challenges. We remain focused on developing an ecosystem of developers and Service Partners to provide more added value to our product portfolio.

Our commitment to innovation is reflected in the exciting, game-changing products we have launched in recent years, including the Thuraya SatSleeve, the world's first satellite adaptor for the iPhone® that puts the power of satellite connectivity into the hands of consumers.

We are delighted that the SatSleeve recently garnered the Lloyd's List Innovation Award, in which the judging panel recognized the device's unique ability to keep seafarers connected with their families and friends, as well as facilitating business-critical communications at sea. We will continue to broaden our portfolio with exciting products such as SatSleeve and Thuraya IP+, while introducing new pricing plans that will cater to our customers’ evolving requirements.

In future editions of Thuraya Link, we aim to provide you more updates on how Thuraya is pushing the boundaries of innovation in the MSS sector. With 2013 coming to a close soon, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our customers, partners and industry friends for your continued support — and here’s wishing you all a great year ahead in 2014.
